Transvaginal Ultrasound (TVS): Precision Imaging for Women's Health

At Gifted Hands Hospital, we prioritise accuracy and patient comfort in every diagnostic procedure. A Transvaginal Scan (TVS) is a specialised internal ultrasound providing exceptionally clear images of the pelvic organs.

Including the uterus, ovaries, and cervix, allowing for early and precise diagnosis of gynaecological and obstetric conditions. Because the probe is placed closer to the pelvic organs, TVS provides higher-resolution images than a standard abdominal scan.

Technology and Infrastructure

The Gifted Hands Women's Imaging Advantage

Our TVS services are designed around the comfort, privacy, and dignity of our patients, supported by advanced equipment and female-led imaging teams.

01

Female-Led Imaging:

We offer scans performed by experienced female radiologists and sonologists. A female staff member is always present during the scan to ensure your comfort and dignity throughout.

02

Advanced High-Frequency Transducers:

Our high-frequency transducers capture the finest details, reducing the need for repeat scans. Ultra-slim probes and specialised gels are used to ensure the procedure is as quick and comfortable as possible.

03

Comprehensive Care Integration:

If an abnormality is found, our in-house gynaecologists and surgeons are available for immediate consultation, ensuring a seamless transition from diagnosis to care.

Clinical Approach

Privacy, Comfort & Diagnostic Clarity

We understand that internal scans can be a source of anxiety. Our approach ensures privacy, a gentle technique, and immediate communication of findings — every time.

01

Early Pregnancy & Fertility Assessment:

Confirming pregnancy as early as 5-6 weeks, checking for a heartbeat, ruling out ectopic pregnancies, and tracking follicle development for couples planning a pregnancy or undergoing fertility treatments.

02

Gynaecological Diagnostics:

Investigating the causes of irregular bleeding, pelvic pain, or suspected conditions like PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), and identifying uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, or endometrial polyps.

03

Privacy & Dignity First:

All scans are performed in a private, sterilised environment with a female chaperone present at all times. Our specialists explain the preliminary findings clearly during or immediately after the scan.

What We Can
Q: What is a Transvaginal Scan?
A: Unlike a standard ultrasound that goes over the abdomen, a TVS involves a small, lubricated probe inserted into the vagina. This allows for a much closer and clearer view of the reproductive organs.
Q: Is the procedure painful?
A: While you may feel a slight pressure similar to a pelvic exam, the procedure is not typically painful. Most patients find it to be only mildly uncomfortable and very quick.
Q: Do I need a full bladder for a TVS?
A: No. Unlike an abdominal ultrasound, a transvaginal scan requires an empty bladder. You will be asked to use the restroom just before the procedure starts.
Q: Can I have a TVS while on my period?
A: Yes. In many cases, especially for fertility assessments or investigating irregular bleeding, it is actually preferable to perform the scan during certain days of your menstrual cycle.
Q: Is it safe to have a TVS during early pregnancy?
A: Absolutely. It is a standard and safe procedure used in the first trimester to confirm a healthy pregnancy. It does not harm the developing baby.
Q: How long does the scan take?
A: The actual scanning process usually takes between 10 to 15 minutes.
Q: Can I bring a family member with me?
A: At Gifted Hands Hospital, we allow a female relative to accompany you into the room for support, and we always ensure a female staff member is present during the scan.
Q: When will I get the results?
A: A formal report is typically generated within a few hours. However, if the scan is urgent, our radiologists can provide immediate verbal feedback to you and your doctor.
